How do I get my Platys to spawn?

I bought 5 juvenile sunset Platys. Each are about 2cm in length (including tail-fin).

Are they old enough to spawn? What do I have to provide/do to provoke mating. In fact, how do they mate considering they are live bearers?

My tank is a 5 gallon. PH= 7.3, Temp 24 deg C. I have an amazon sword and a wisteria plant in there, and a bit of rockery for shade etc...

How do I get my Platys to spawn?
Livebearing fish like Platies Guppies ect are more often then not allready pregnant when you buy them. Your tank is pritty small concidering you wish to breed them you may wish to remove adults to another tank if the do spawn.

The males consistantly mate with the females so you should allways have more females than males to pevent harassment!

I would recomend finding out what sex your fish are if you dont know already. Most tropical fish like to spawn in the wild when it is cooler so mabe lower your tanks temp. Platies like harder water conditions around 7.5 - 8.2 ph. you will be able to tell when they are ready to spawn when the fish displays a change in colour or the female fish will simply get bigger.

My advise would be to do lots of research on platies on the web and in books because there is so much to learn.

hope this helps.
Reply:I would not recommend a 5 gallon - not for what you have. I would not use a 5 gallon to mate guppies. Get a minimum 10 gal, keep the temp around 80 deg F, and I keep my ph at 7.0. I am mating my Mickey Mouse Platy's right now as well and this is how I am doing it - cloning what I used to get my black mollies to have 3 sets of babies.

Good Luck %26amp; Happy Spawning!
Reply:play them some hardcore fish on fish action platy porn.

or a copy of playsalmon magazine.

they should get horny and mate
