Wisteria from seed?

i was able to sprout a seed that pooped off my wisteria. I planted it in a pot and nurtured it all season. It grew pretty tall over 16" only one sprout but it had leaves. i was worried i wouldnt be able to keep it indoors over winter so i planted the youngling in a protected area. im in zone 6 and we've had a recent ice storm and when i checked on my plant i couldnt find it at first. It must have bent over and been covered with snow because all in its place is small mound. I did not support it but started to train it up my trellus. Did i kill my plant or will i see green come spring. How long should i wait to plant a seedling.

Wisteria from seed?
If our mature wisteria can withstand an ice storm, your seedling may be able to, however, without an advanced root system or any form of mulch it may not have. Just try again with your seeds, which is great, and if there's still a danger of a hard frost, mulch and even consider covering your small plant.
Reply:Your wisteria is a very hardy plant and it should be okay. It grows well in zone 6 which is where I live in Missouri. Just keep your eye out for a late freeze like last year that will kill it!

Mother nature gave us a farily good winter so it's probaby okay.

The only thing wisteria refuses to do is bloom fast enough, sometimes taking years to do it.

GOOD LUCK!

Try using this if you haven't already next time you plant. My dad was a MG and this is what he always used.

Most all garden centers have it and I know walmart does.

Reply:Zone 6 is fine for wisteria.Don't worry about it the first year, to promote bloom prune back lateral branches to the first

6 or7 buds(they will be sort of compressed together).these buds have the flower meristems.
Reply:A reason for purchasing a wisteria from a nursery:

I meticulously collected the seeds from my wisteria until my sister (a horticulturist) told me a wisteria started from seed will not bloom for at least seven years.

I checked sources on the internet and it confirmed this.

Here is one: ".....wisteria grown from seed will not flower for about 7-10 years."
