What is the job title of the person who designs and builds stage sets?

While going through the tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, I was really interested in the stage sets that they had set up (the airplane crash scene from War of the Worlds, Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives, etc).

This seems like a really cool job since I'm into construction and creativity. I couldn't find an exact job title to research this on though, anyone have any idea? or where to start? I was looking through some theater arts classes at my community college, but just wanted to check with you guys.

Research Scenic Design, Set Construction, and Technical Direction. Your community college is a great place to start to pursue this as a career if they have a good theatre and/or film department. Courses will be listed as Introduction to Play Production or Stagecraft.
Reply:The Set Designer would do the , well, designs, and the Technical Director would make the designs a reality.
