I've been fighting with this Wisteria for several years. I think I let it get too many branches and didn't prune it back hard enough. Now it's gangly looking.
I would like to to hug my arbor better and be fuller. It is in bloom right now, so when it's done I will prune it back, but any know how far back I can go without ruining it for the summer?
Here's some pics:

When and how should I prune my gangly old Wisteria?
Here is a great article. Hope it helps!

Reply:I would definately just remove those big pieces hanging out opposite the arbor! There is no reason to leave anything on it that you dislike, actually. pull those top pieces down over the arbor as close as you can and wind the new growth down into the arbor - remove anything that won't play along nicely. Cutting it early will give it time to recover well and place its new growth in the areas you want it to. Wisteria are hardy weeds of plants, so it will be fine.
