we have wisteria plant 3/4 years old!! it just about reaches up to boys bedroom now and last night i noticed that it was laying by side of gas flue!!
I went upstairs in bedroom and grabbed it and cut it back!!
It is fine now but I know they grow like crazy (summer)
Will it be fine leaving it here and just keep cutting it back or do you think it is risky??
HELP!! wisteria climbing up near gas flue!!??
Personally I would cut the thing down and grub out the roots.
I know there are some well organised people who would remember to keep the thing trimmed and well clear of that flue. I am not that sort of person I would have every intention of keeping it trimmed and always be planning to do the job tomorrow.
If you are completely sure you will regularly trim it then enjoy the plant, otherwise take it out and make sure your boys are safe
Reply:It does grow so fast. I would move it esp. since you already saw it against the flue. The boys could die. I don't know where you live but move it early fall or in the spring.
Good luck.
Reply:If you like it, keep it trimmed, these plants can grow it 30' in length.
The other issue is that these plants are robust. I'd be concerned about them actually damaging my siding. They have a knack for getting under things and slowly prying them off.
I had one actually pull a ground wire off of my telephone pole, because it grew under the ground wire.
