Healthy wisteria?

i have wisteria planted in the patio growing up the poles but they are starting to get eaten and one looks a bit like coppery brown, i spray white oil on them, im not sure if im supposed to do that, but what are some ways to grow really healthy wisteria?

Healthy wisteria?
My neighbor had a healthy wisteria, but he sprayed for weeds and got one end of a shoot from the vine. Like a good wisteria, it had grown well but showed up in an unexpected place. Part of it turned brown and died. It recovered, but he and I both learned from his mistake.

After it recovered, his wisteria was so healthy, it would creep along in my lawn and start up a fencepost several feet away. But it was so beautiful I didn't mind.

Have you sprayed herbicide anywhere in the area?
Reply:The best way to have a healthy wisteria that blooms beautifully is to prune it properly. Wisteria needs to be pruned back pretty hard in late winter. Proper pruning it essential to get them to bloom to their potential. Prune again after blooming in early- mid summer. Also, do not give your wisteria a too much fertilizer and especially not too much nitrogen. This will promote rapid vegetation growth with little or no flowers. Another key factor in having them perform to their maximum is to ensure they are receiving enough sun. They thrive in full sun.

Here is a link I think you will find useful!

Reply:The only problem that most people have with wisteria is trying to slow it down. It thrives on neglect. I don't believe that I've ever seen a pest bother with one either. I've even mowed over one by mistake and it came back in short order.
