I love the Wisteria in my garden but any ideas on what I could do to try and train it away from the tree - it was planted when I moved in 12 years ago ?

Help with Wisteria please ?
Great photos, but it's hard to tell where the wisteria is planted.Maybe the growth(s) into the conifer could be cut off at the base, leaving the dead growth to be removed later.
If there's room to erect a trellis between the tree and your house, the wisteria could be trained onto that.
Current practice is to select one strong stem and train side growth on a support. The tendrils supporting the plant require cutting back or the
wisteria will ramble everywhere-but you know that!
Good luck,it's a lovely plant.
Reply:i have just bought a arch .my wisteria was being swamped on the fence by next doors plant.so i have teased some of the new shoots away from fence it is already growing up the arch so next year all being well it will look lovely.
Reply:build an arbor, and then use removable ties (I use a velcro one) to slowly drag the vines over to the arbor, moving it slowly, a few inches a month.
Or, frankly, prune it down and train the new growth.
Reply:That wisteria will kill the tree, you could cut it way down and train it over a trellis, keep it pruned every year.
Reply:One thing for sure...it is absolutely beautiful!
