Its 3 years old, 8ft high and has loads of growth, but all leaves. I think it needs pruning, but it sounds really complicated - main shoots, side shoots, lateral shoots etc. Can anyone tell me in plain english what I need to do and when
My Wisteria won't flower?
was the wisteria started from seed? a graft from another plant?
it all depends on how old the plant actually is...some wisteria do not bloom until they are at least 7 yrs old or older especially the ones started from seed...also not all wisteria are guaranteed to ever bloom..the only way to guarantee blooms every year is to get a grafted cutting from a mature blooming plant
wisteria likes water but very little to no fertilizer
i hope this helps
Reply:So long as your wisteria is happy, it won't see any need to reproduce and will not flower. You have to threaten its existence by withholding food and cutting the roots shorter.
Reply:you may be under watering it... if it doestn have atiquite amount of water they wont bloom... other htan that it may need re potting! hope i helped!!!
Reply:You may be over-fertilizing it. Try not giving it any for a season and it should flower next year.

Reply:Westeria is a vine plant so should not be pruned at all. If yoo must prune it do it after it flowers. I think you maybe cutting the buds off causing it to have no floweres
Reply:I planted one. It bloomed the next year. It all depends on if its in the sun or shade. My 2 are in the shade most of the time, %26amp; they bloom each year %26amp; grow like crazy. I never prune them back.
Reply:I heard from Paul James (The Gardener Guy) that sometimes if a Wisteria won't bloom, cutting into the roots with a spade shovel may shock it into blooming.
Reply:Prune it now, cut shoots right back, it can take up to seven years for these to flower but you need to prune it every year
