How long, on average, does it take for a recently aquired bare root and dormant wisteria to come out of dorm.?

Wisterias on average need a period of several months (about 3-6) dormancy once they've been planted, regardless of the time of year that you plant. If you plant now, it may come into leaf at some point during the summer, or it may even wait until next spring (dormancy of a year is not unknown). During this time it's establishing its root system and getting over the shock of planting, and with a bare root specimen this may take a while. Just ensure it is adequately watered for its first year (never let the soil dry out, especially in summer). Give it a bit of food (general purpose fertiliser), give it some support to climb up and protect it from icy, wet winds.

Once it comes into leaf, it may take a further 2-5 years before it will flower, depending on its size. Again, don't worry about this: Wisterias are known for this kind of behaviour. It still looks good even with just leaves on it.

My plant didn't break dormancy until June! It was just a stick. When I saw all the other wisterias is the area blooming I waited awhile but decided it was dead and meant to pull it out but , lucky me, I forgot! Now it starts in march and april depending on the weatherlike all the rest of them here. It is an American / native wisteria. Many of the orientals have already bloomed. So be patient.

Reply:should start showing in about a week after planting in very wet and fertilized spot
Reply:When it is warm enough for the plant, once they start you won't be able to get rid of it, trimming is very important to get it to flower in the Spring for you, It seems to be trimmed in the same way a grape vine in the orchards. Hoyakins
