I would like to get rid of a Wisteria without digging it out????

why not try cutting it down into a bush(say 5ft.X5 FT) Wisteria is a very hardy plant and can take this type of pruning. if you are still unhappy with it cut it to the ground and when ever you see a sprout break it off. when you cut it off at the base it could sprout up somewhere along the root system.

Cut it off at ground level. Drill a large hole or several small holes in the stump and fill them with creosote or very strong weed killer. You may have to refill the holes several times.

But what a shame to destroy such a beautiful plant.
Reply:i love wisteria Where do you live? I'll come and dig it up and take it away for you
Reply:I have a feeling that the plant is not on your side of your garden and you can't just dig it out :p

So, the advices for applying strong weed killers are out of the question.

If this is true, my advice is to overwhelm it with a different climbing plant which you plant on the opposite side right next to the wisteria. I recommend Perthenocissus tricuspidata.

However it would be easier to ask your neighbour to remove it so it won't invade your space.
Reply:Good luck. I bought some deep root killer and have covered it with a black plastic bag as instructed. I shan't know what has happened until the spring but I don't feel hopeful.

Reply:If you have to get rid of it, cut it to the ground and put Brush and Stump Killer on the freshly cut stump. Apply it with an old small paintbrush, and use it full strength. It will go down into the root and kill it out so it will not sprout again. You can get some brand of it at your local garden center. Fertilome, Hi-Yield, Ortho
