Training wisteria?

Hi there,

I've got 4 wisteria prolific plants growing on an arbor of 4 poles spaced about 6 by 8 feet wide. At the top of the arbor are 4 crossing beams six feet across each about a foot and a half apart. I planted them all in late March and patiently waitied for some kind of growth. Finally they have wrapped their ways up the poles to the top. I've read a lot about training but still confused about how exactly I need to train them across and when I should prune on such baby plants. (I am in the Netherlands where Wisteria doesn't pose such an overtaking threat, but not sure what zone we are considered). The plants have also been planted where they can not overtake house and will only have the arbor to climbe. Any suggestions on how to train or other tips? Thanks for your answers!

Training wisteria?
I didn't have to do much training, it just sort of took over everything but now I have it under control... I hope. After mine blooms I trim it back severely and it blooms again. Now days I gather all the seedpods from that second bloom so they don't have a chance to pop everywhere come spring.
Reply:I have really never had to deal with wisteria, but with clematis we use fishing line and nail a grid to a trellis to help aid them in climbing. this way you can place it where you would like it and adjust it as you want. Hope this helps, and good luck.
Reply:we used to have a wisteria tree outside the apartment growing on a trelis.. i took care of it.. but our landlord cut it down... no dont go hacking at a new tree... start by giving it help when you see that a vine is drooping wrap it around something on your trelis... and when the tree gets older the you can cut on it... like when it reaches the ground loop it around something and make it grow back up.... they are hearty plants but give it a chance to grow first good lick!
