wisteria like to have their roots in the shade but find the sun with their leaves. My wisteria are facing north east and seem quite happy.

Reply:The issue is not whether it will grow, but whether it will flower. You are likely to get very poor flowering on a north-facing wall, and would be better opting for something like Hydrangea anomala petiolaris. All species of Wisteria require sunny positions, that is south- or west-facing walls.
